So while talking with a fellow friend and breeder last night, we recalled our first start in the Holland world was February of 2013. So just 2 years ago. Hard to imagine! And our start, was a slow one at that. With just one pair, and no luck in litters we obtained a second doe. And even then, we lost her first litter as well. Our first couple of months, were lessons in false pregnancies, stuck kits, dead litters, and litters on the wire. While this would surely discourage many we took note and kept at it. We have been very selective in who we have kept. Picking what we want to improve on. Taking chances here and there. While we have produced some nice does with features to help us improve, we have been very leary in keeping bucks. In fact, in all of this time, we only have 2 that we have kept. While we play with them, and take them out on a regular basis, somehow this massive change in our sweet Nugget, eluded me. Until this last weekend, I was in the garage with my husband and looked over and out loud exclaimed OH MY GOD, look at his head! Even my husband was stunned. It has suddenly gotten massive. I feel his head outdoes his body. So glad we chose to hold on to this guy. He won us over with his sweet personality but his head has now become the largest in our barn! And all this mass just under 4 pounds! Our other buck is coming along very nice as well at just over 6 months old. I can only imagine him in another year.
